Dighalipukhuri Dighalipukhuri alias Digholy Pukhury, the manmade artificial lake dug straight from the Brahmaputra, is located in the heart of the city. It is one of the rare beauty spots of Guwahati that dates back to several thousand years. During the Ahom period the Dighalipukhuri used be an inland port for war ships and boats. The lake derives its name because of its half-a-mile length (dighal). But later it was separated from the river and a portion was filled up, on which the Circuit House and the High Court was built. Dighalipukhuri offers a relaxing atmosphere and provides boating facilities and recreational activities. Kachapukhuri Kachapukhuri is a tourist spot near Kamakhya Temple, located at a height of 160 m above sea level. There is a natural pond which serves as the home to some giant turtles. The habitat of these amphibians at such a high altitude puzzles tourists and zoologists.
The Hazara Pukhuri The large tank preserves the name Harzara Varman in Tezpur. It was excavated in the early part of the 19th century. This is the third largest tank covering an area of 70 acres.
Chandubi Lake A natural lagoon and fine picnic spot which is 64 kms. from Guwahati. The lake and its surroundings is an ideal holiday resort with the added attraction of fishing and rowing. The place is easily accessible by bus from Guwahati.The best season to visit is from November to April.
