Manik to lead CPI(M) (9/9/2017)
Ending all speculation Bijan Dhar on Saturday made it clear that Manik Sarkar will lead the party in the upcoming assembly poll. “If Manik Sarkar remains fit, the Left Front will contest the elections projecting him as the Chief Ministerial candidate as he has a proven skill to lead the ruling front”, said Mr Dhar at a press meet. "We have no doubt about forming the next government. Manik Sarkar would be the chief minister of the eighth Left Front Government in Tripura. He is physically strong and capable of running the government efficiently," he went on to add . When his attention was drawn to the fact that Sitaram Yechury was denied renomination in Rajya Sabha he passed on the batton to Gautam Das. ‘There is a guideline issued by the central committee but it is more an advisory than a mandatory provision ; the advisory stipulates that those who have enjoyed three consecutive terms in office must opt out from legislative wing or from the party ; but this is followed strictly in the party where only party members are concerned’ said Das. With formal announcement of CPI(M) it will now be Manik Sarkar verses Biplab Deb of BJP in the upcoming assembly poll. With the formal announcement of Bijan Dhar by his side Mr Sarkar also became hyper active and was seen at a march to condemn the killing of scribe Gauri Lankesh and also visited Akahura border to take a look into the drains leading to Bangladesh.
